Champaign Man Identified as Victim of Shooting Friday in Urbana: Police Investigation Underway

URBANA, IL — The Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Urbana Police Department have identified Kadeem J. Moore, a 34-year-old resident of Champaign, Illinois, as the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday, December 8, 2023, in Urbana. The incident took place in the 2000 block of Vawter Street, and Mr. Moore was pronounced dead at the Carle Foundation Hospital due to multiple gunshot wounds.

The Champaign County Coroner’s Office and the Urbana Police Department are jointly conducting an in-depth investigation into the incident. Preliminary findings suggest that the shooting was not a random act of violence, and there appears to be no immediate threat to the general public.

Urbana Police responded to the incident at approximately 9:41 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Moore with severe injuries. Despite rapid medical intervention, he succumbed to his wounds.

Authorities are actively seeking additional information and are urging anyone with knowledge of the incident, especially those with video footage, to come forward. Confidentiality and anonymity are assured for those who choose to provide information.
