DUPAGE COUNTY, IL – Victor Hugo Diaz Castillo, a Venezuelan migrant currently residing in Chicago, was charged with a new allegation of burglary in DuPage County following his arrest at a Macy’s in Oak Brook on Saturday. This incident occurred just a day after he was arrested and subsequently released under the SAFE-T Act in Cook County for a similar offense.
Oak Brook Chief of Police, Brian Strockis, expressed concern over the repeated offenses, stating, “What’s disturbing about this case is that Mr. Diaz Castillo was arrested the day before this incident for retail theft in Cook County and released. He clearly has demonstrated that he is not good at stealing and he should realize that our loss prevention agents and police officers are well trained and vigilant in our joint efforts to keep Oak Brook and DuPage County safe.” Strockis thanked the local law enforcement teams for their effective response and ongoing vigilance in tackling retail theft.
Diaz Castillo’s repeated arrests highlight issues within the current system and the challenges faced by law enforcement in managing repeat offenders. He is scheduled for arraignment on May 13, 2024, as local authorities continue to emphasize the serious consequences of retail theft and the community’s commitment to maintaining safety and security.
