Kankakee, IL – In a startling episode in Kankakee, gunfire rang out from the sunroof of a white Ford Expedition late Friday night. City police responded to reports of the shooting around 10:45 p.m. in the 1600 block of East Maple Street.
At the scene, officers discovered spent shell casings, several slugs, and a small pool of blood in a parking lot. Eyewitnesses described how an individual extended an arm through the vehicle’s sunroof, discharging multiple rounds into the air before the SUV sped away.
Following an investigation, police traced the vehicle to a residence on South Osborn Avenue. There, they located the Expedition and apprehended 32-year-old Steven J. Allen of Kankakee. Allen, who matched the description provided by witnesses, now faces multiple allegations involving weapons charges. Police have also reportedly obtained video evidence of the incident as part of their ongoing investigation.
