Rockford Woman in Critical Condition After Tree Crash in Lake County

Antioch, IL – A serious single-vehicle crash has left a 76-year-old woman from Rockford in critical condition. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon on Route 173 in the unincorporated area of Antioch, Lake County.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to the scene near Wells Lane at about 3:10 p.m. on May 12, 2024. They discovered the driver, the vehicle’s only occupant, unconscious and exhibiting signs of labored breathing. Emergency services transported her to a nearby hospital, where she remains in a critical state.

Initial findings suggest the 2000 Buick Century the woman was driving eastbound veered off the road and collided with a tree. The impact caused minor damage to the vehicle, leading investigators to consider the possibility of a medical episode preceding the crash. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is actively examining the details of the accident.
