OAK BROOK, IL – Amidst the onset of the bustling holiday shopping season, a second incident within eight days has surfaced at the Oak Brook Macy’s, involving Venezuelan migrants facing burglary charges.
The most recent case occurred on Halloween when Luis Mendez-Gomez, 28, and Frank Montez-Davila, 23, were detained for allegedly spiriting away $2,832.50 worth of merchandise, including high-end fragrances and clothing, concealed in a ‘happy birthday’ bag and a backpack.
This theft follows a similar episode on October 23, signaling a concerning trend as retailers like Macy’s become targets. DuPage County authorities, led by State’s Attorney Robert Berlin, are expressing a hardened stance on retail crime, promising unwavering protection for local businesses as the crucial holiday shopping period approaches.
The Oak Brook Police are reinforcing their vigilance following these repeated thefts, sending a clear message to potential shoplifters: Oak Brook is on high alert.
