Kankakee, IL — Communities in Kankakee, Iroquois, Ford, and Livingston counties are on high alert for potential flooding as torrential rains are expected to intensify this afternoon. The US National Weather Service Chicago has issued warnings, especially for areas south of Interstate 80, cautioning against heavy rainfall and localized flooding.
Following substantial rains yesterday, several locations already experienced significant precipitation. Bonfield, IL, recorded 2.61 inches of rain, Dwight, IL, received 2.59 inches, Paxton, IL, saw 2.37 inches, and Clifton, IL, noted 2.18 inches. These heavy downpours have heightened concerns about the ground’s ability to absorb further rainfall.
According to weather reports, today’s slow-moving storms could bring additional heavy rainfall, worsening the flood risks. The storms are projected to move westward at speeds of 10-15 mph. Residents are urged to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid flooded roads, and report any instances of flooding to local authorities or the National Weather Service.
