Chicago, Illinois — Scott Eby, the man convicted for the 2004 murder of three-year-old Riley Fox, has died in prison, according to Chicago media reports. Eby was serving a life sentence at the Menard Correctional Center in downstate Illinois.

In 2010, Eby confessed to kidnapping Riley from her Wilmington home and later murdering her. Her body was found in a nearby creek. This case also drew significant attention due to the wrongful arrest and eight-month incarceration of Riley’s father, Kevin Fox, who was initially charged based on a coerced confession.

DNA evidence eventually exonerated Kevin Fox, leading to Eby’s confession and conviction. The Will County state’s attorney’s office confirmed Eby’s death in custody.
