Frankfort, IL – In a move that aligns perfectly with its Germanic roots, Frankfort is gearing up to potentially host its very own Christkindlmarket.

Mayor Keith Ogle announced this week efforts to petition for the celebrated holiday market, known for bringing a slice of European Christmas charm with international and local vendors, to the village this year. The market, which has delighted visitors in Chicago and Aurora with an array of food, crafts, and festive ornaments, could soon find a new home in Frankfort.

According to Ogle, the village is not just focused on festive preparations but is also taking significant steps to enhance downtown accessibility and convenience for shoppers. Plans include the addition of 140 parking spots in key areas to alleviate congestion and improve the shopping experience. These new spots will be located at the Framilco building and lot at 2 Smith Street—recently razed to accommodate more vehicles—and the Prairie Park lot, which will be expanded to include a smaller lot on White Street, adjacent to upcoming local businesses.

The potential hosting of the Christkindlmarket in Frankfort promises to be a boon for the local economy, potentially mirroring the success seen in its Chicago and Aurora counterparts, which annually attract upwards of one million visitors combined. This influx could significantly enhance the vibrancy of Frankfort’s downtown area, providing a substantial boost to local businesses through increased foot traffic and shopping, while also offering residents and visitors alike a festive, communal experience emblematic of the holiday season.
