Florida Man Killed in Motorcycle Crash; Indiana Driver Arrested for OWI

La Porte, IN – A fatal crash investigation led to the arrest of a La Porte man for OWI charges.

Larry Cummings, 82, and Cheryl Skidmore, 73, both of Fort Myers, Florida, were ejected from their motorcycle after being rear-ended by a GMC SUV driven by Angel Almaraz, 32, on State Road 2. Skidmore, flown to a regional hospital, succumbed to her injuries, while Cummings was hospitalized with upper body injuries.

According to authorities, the crash occurred at 8:50 PM last night. Deputies reportedly observed Almaraz displaying signs of impairment, leading to his arrest at the scene. He faces charges including OWI causing death and is held at La Porte County Jail on a $20,305 cash-only bond.

Assisting in the investigation were the Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, Criminal Investigations Division, and multiple local agencies.
