Michigan City, IN – An escalated confrontation ensued following a traffic stop on Sunday evening, leading to a Lake County man shattering the windshield of a patrol car.

According to Indiana State Police reports officers initiated the stop at about 8:50 p.m., targeting a 2004 Cadillac Escalade due to an expired license plate. The passenger, identified as 19-year-old Nadan Stallings from Gary, IN, had an existing warrant for criminal mischief in LaPorte County.

Upon confirming his identity, Officers attempted to secure Stallings inside a patrol car, a process met with resistance as Stallings refused to comply with wearing a seatbelt and reportedly began kicking the vehicle’s windshield until it broke. Michigan City Police later assisted in transporting Stallings to their department, where he continued to exhibit aggressive behavior, including assaulting an officer.

Stallings faces several preliminary charges, including battery on a public safety official and criminal mischief.
