CROWN POINT, IN – A high-speed police chase unfolded in the streets of Crown Point early Sunday morning.
According to Crown Point police reports the 32-year-old man from Kenosha, Wisconsin was driving a black Maserati at nearly 90 mph in a 45 mph zone, causing officers to pursue the suspect in a high speed chase. The Maserati finally pulled over nearly a mile down the road.
With reinforcements on hand, the driver reportedly refused orders to exit his vehicle. Crown Point Police deployed a K-9 into the vehicle, but the driver allegedly gouged the K-9 eyes before choking the dog, leaving the canine office incapacitated, causing his eyes to roll to the back of his head.
Other officers on the scene tased the driver to subdue the driver before rescuing the injured K-9, named Jack.
K-9 Jack is now under the medical care of a vet, awaiting further evaluation, the Wisconsin man now in custody awaiting formal charges. Two additional officers suffered non-life threatening injuries in the incident.
