Mapleton, IL – A swift response by Peoria County Sheriff’s deputies led to the arrest of a suspect in an armed robbery case.
On Friday, January 12, 2024, around 9:30 pm, deputies were called to the BP Gas Station at 8626 W. Wheeler Rd. in Mapleton, following a reported armed robbery.
According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department, surveillance footage revealed a male suspect brandishing a handgun and demanding money. He then fled with an undisclosed sum. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
The collaborative efforts of Peoria County Detectives, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office, and Canton Police played a crucial role in identifying the suspect. On Tuesday, January 16th, 2024, at about 3:00 p.m., 32-year-old Kinneth Chipman of Canton, IL, was apprehended at a Canton gas station.
Chipman was subsequently booked into the Peoria County Jail on charges of armed robbery.
