Peoria, IL – Residents across central Illinois were treated to a rare and splendid display of the Aurora Borealis, or Northern Lights, last night, adding a celestial spectacle to an already fair weather weekend. The vivid colors typically seen near the poles were visible here due to a powerful solar storm, illuminating the night sky with hues of pink, purple, blue, and red.

The U.S. National Weather Service in Central Illinois noted that while it will be breezy at times, the region can expect continued fair weather conditions. Temperatures are forecasted to rise into the lower 70s today and will reach the upper 70s to around 80 by Sunday. Residents looking to catch another glimpse of the Aurora Borealis may have favorable viewing conditions, despite the breezy weather. The next chance for rain is not expected until early next week, ensuring a mostly clear and pleasant weekend.
