Chicago, IL – Dangerous swimming conditions are expected at Chicago beaches from this evening through Monday night due to strong onshore winds behind a cold front, creating high waves and hazardous currents.
According to the National Weather Service, waves along the southern shores of Lake Michigan will rapidly build to 4 to 8 feet tonight, posing life-threatening risks. Beachgoers are urged to stay out of the water and heed posted signs and closures. The hazardous conditions are projected to continue through Monday night, with improvements anticipated by Tuesday morning.
Breezy northerly winds will bring cooler temperatures at the beginning of the week, with highs ranging from 63°F to 73°F on Monday and lows dropping to between 48°F and 54°F at night. Tuesday will see temperatures slightly warmer, with highs from 68°F to 78°F.
The weather pattern will shift midweek as conditions become more summer-like. By Wednesday night, showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the area, continuing into Thursday. Highs will climb to between 81°F and 90°F by Thursday, with a 30% chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.
