CHICAGO, IL – A startling incident unfolded Tuesday morning as police activity forced the closure of all outbound lanes on the Dan Ryan Expressway.

According to Illinois State Police (ISP), a driver’s distress call reporting gunfire hitting their vehicle set off a rapid response. The outbound lanes near 83rd Street turned into a sprawling crime scene, with ISP officers meticulously canvassing the area for evidence. No injuries have yet to be reported.

As of 6 a.m., commuters are experiencing major disruptions, with traffic being rerouted off the expressway at 83rd Street. The repercussions of this ongoing investigation have rippled across the city’s major arteries. Inbound lanes on the Dan Ryan, as well as Inbound I-57 and Inbound Bishop Ford, are grappling with heavy traffic and significant delays. Morning commuters are advised to allocate additional time for their journeys.
