GARY – An early morning crash on I-80/94 eastbound lanes in Gary resulted in the death of a six-year-old girl. The incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. and involved a silver 2016 Nissan Altima that was stopped in the right lane and a 2014 Volvo semi pulling a loaded trailer of U.S. mail.
According to preliminary investigations conducted by Trooper Isajczuk, the semi rear-ended the Nissan, causing catastrophic damage. The Nissan had two adults and three children on board, and none of the children were properly restrained in child safety seats.
The driver of the Nissan, Ta’Quana L. Crawford, 27, from Milwaukee, WI, sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported for treatment. All of the vehicle’s occupants were injured and received local treatment or were flown out for specialized medical care.
Orlando Shaw, 49, from Wheeling, IL, the driver of the semi, was not injured in the crash. The crash investigation is in its early stages, and additional information may be released at a later date.
