Crystal Lake residents identified as victims in Fatal 72-Vehicle Crash on I-55 in Illinois

FARMERSVILLE – The Illinois State Police have released the names of five additional victims who lost their lives in a massive 72-vehicle pileup on Interstate 55 near Farmersville in Montgomery County on Monday. 

The crashes, which took place around 10:55 a.m., involved both northbound and southbound lanes of the highway between mile markers 72 and 78. In total, seven people died and 37 others were injured, some with critical wounds. 

The additional victims have been identified as Joseph and Donna Bates, both 73, from Crystal Lake, IL; Earl LeGrand, 64, from Florissant, MO; and Michael and Amy Zinchuk, aged 55 and 54, respectively, from Champaign, IL. 

The State Police are working with the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office to identify the final victim.
