KANKAKEE, IL – A carjacking in Kankakee Saturday culminated in the arrest of two suspects, thanks to the aid of drone technology.

On December 2, 2023, a 35-year-old individual fell victim to a vehicular hijacking in the 600 block of N. Harrison Ave. The suspects, Embassy C. Spain, 19, and William J. Silas, 22, both Kankakee residents, allegedly seized a 2019 GMC Acadia at gunpoint.

After a failed traffic stop and a police pursuit, the suspects crashed the vehicle in Kankakee County and fled on foot. The decisive use of aerial drones by multiple police departments led to the successful location and arrest of both suspects in a nearby field.

Spain and Silas now face charges including armed robbery, aggravated vehicular hijacking, and vehicular invasion, with Silas additionally charged for violating parole.
