EF-3 Tornado Crosses I-57 in Illinois Sunday Evening, Injuring One

Johnson County, IL – An EF-3 tornado crossed I-57 near Goreville on Sunday evening, causing significant damage.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, KY, the tornado, with peak winds of 150 mph, traveled 5.07 miles from 6:38 PM to 6:48 PM. The tornado uprooted trees, snapped power poles, and caused structural damage to homes. One person was injured.

The tornado began near Goreville, damaging structures as it crossed I-57 and I-24. Major damage occurred along Orchard Lane and in the Eagle Point Bay subdivision, where several homes were severely damaged or destroyed. Further updates are expected as assessments continue.
