Elmhurst, IL – In a detailed update on the fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Friday, January 26, 2024, the Elmhurst Police Department has released new information. The incident took place at 6:38 a.m. at the intersection of York Street and Diversey Avenue, involving a 74-year-old Elmhurst woman and a 73-year-old Elmhurst man driving a 2004 Toyota minivan.

According to Chief of Police Michael McLean, emergency responders arrived on the scene following a 911 call and found the injured pedestrian in the roadway. Despite the efforts of Elmhurst Paramedics, the woman was pronounced deceased at Edward-Elmhurst Hospital. The driver of the Toyota minivan, which showed front end damage, remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

The DuPage MERIT Major Crash Investigation Team assisted in the investigation, which required the closure of the roadway until approximately 10:30 a.m. Preliminary findings suggest the Toyota was traveling northbound in the outside lane under dark, partially foggy, and rainy weather conditions. The pedestrian, coming from the Shell Gas Station driveway, crossed several lanes before being struck in the northbound lane.

At present, there is no evidence of intoxication in relation to the crash. The Elmhurst Police Department, along with the DuPage County Coroner’s Office, continues to investigate this incident. The police are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact them at (630) 530-3050.
