Evanston, IL – A fire on the 1100 block of Florence Avenue in Evanston has resulted in injuries to two firefighters and the displacement of three occupants, including their pets.

According to the Evanston Fire Department, the blaze began around 9:45 a.m. on Monday, quickly escalating to a second alarm due to intense conditions. Despite their efforts, two firefighters were trapped following a partial floor collapse but were promptly extricated and transported to the hospital in stable condition.

The fire, which originated in the basement of a single-family residence, caused extensive damage and led to the unfortunate loss of one cat. Two occupants and their pets were able to evacuate safely before the fire intensified.

Authorities have reported that the fire was brought under control within an hour, but not before causing significant smoke and structural damage, displacing the residents. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
