The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Sunday events of 50 or more people should be canceled for the next eight weeks.

The announcement comes just hours after Gov. J.B. Pritzker told the State of Illinois he would order bars and restaurants to close, starting at the end of business on Monday.

“This recommendation is made in an attempt to reduce introduction of the virus into new communities and to slow the spread of infection in communities already affected by the virus,” the CDC said.
