Kankakee County, IL – The Kankakee County Emergency Management Agency has issued a flood watch for the Kankakee River at Momence, impacting areas from the Illinois-Indiana state line to the confluence with the Iroquois River at Aroma Park.

The alert includes the Momence gauge, which officials report as of 11:45 AM CST Monday, the river stage was at 3.9 feet, with an ice jam noted from near Kankakee to Sun River Terrace. Despite recent decreases in water levels, the threat of flooding remains high if the ice jam shifts or additional jams develop.

Residents are advised to stay vigilant, especially in low-lying, forested, park, and agricultural areas, as well as roads near the river, which are susceptible to flooding. The emergency management team warns that the river could surpass the flood stage of 5.0 feet in the next few days due to the unstable ice conditions.
