PEOTONE – Former Elwood Mayor Todd Matichak, 52, of Peotone, turned himself into Joliet Police Wednesday after a Grundy County grand jury indicted him on multiple charges.

Matichak was Mayor of Elwood for just under a year, beginning in April 2017.

Matichak was charged this week with traveling to meet a minor, a class three felony. Investigators say the former Mayor allegedly chatted online with an underage minor in June 2020, later meeting in Diamond to engage in sex acts. A vehicle registered to Matichak was reportedly captured on camera by Grundy County investigators during that meeting.

Bond for the former Mayor has been set at $20,000.
