La Porte, IN – Franciscan Alliance is set to fully acquire Franciscan Beacon Hospital in La Porte, Indiana, this spring, as announced by the organization’s representatives.
The acquisition marks a significant shift from the initial 2018 agreement between Franciscan Alliance and Beacon Health System, which established a 50/50 joint partnership for the hospital at 1010 State Road 2.
The 92,500-square-foot facility boasts a 24-hour emergency department with 10 beds, eight inpatient beds, laboratory services, a pharmacist, physical therapy, telehealth capabilities, and advanced imaging and diagnostic equipment. With the acquisition, approximately 33 Beacon Health System staff members, including nursing and imaging staff, will transition to become Franciscan Alliance employees.
Dean Mazzoni, President and CEO of Franciscan Health Michigan City, expressed enthusiasm about expanding healthcare services in La Porte through this acquisition. He also acknowledged the valuable partnership with Beacon Health System over the past six years.
A Beacon Medical Group office building attached to the hospital will continue to operate with its current staff as Beacon employees. Diane Maas, Beacon Health System’s Chief Strategy and Digital Growth Officer, emphasized the continued commitment of both organizations to serving the community and providing high-quality healthcare.
The acquisition is scheduled to close on March 1, followed by a 90-day transition period to the new Franciscan facility. This move aligns with Franciscan Alliance’s regional strategy to optimize facilities and resources, enhancing care throughout Northwest Indiana.
