Galesburg, IL – A tragic incident unfolded in the Galesburg area Thursday evening as a pedestrian was fatally struck by a train.
According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, deputies, along with officers from the Galesburg Police Department, rushed to the scene near the city limits at approximately 9:56 PM following reports of the accident.
Responding agencies found the pedestrian and immediately commenced lifesaving efforts. Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service (G.H.A.S) and Galesburg Fire Department personnel attempted to stabilize the victim. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital Emergency Room, where they were later pronounced dead.
The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed as investigations continue. The Knox County Sheriff’s Department is working closely with local authorities to understand the circumstances leading to this unfortunate event. Further details will be released as they become available.
