Gary, Indiana: Woman Arrested for Gas Station Shooting, Facing Aggravated Battery Charges

Gary, IN – A woman is facing charges following a shooting at a Lake County gas station in early January. 

According to the Gary Indiana Police Department, Cartiara Merritt was arrested by the Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force. She faces charges of Aggravated Battery and Battery with a weapon stemming from an incident on January 10, 2024.

The victim was allegedly shot by Merritt at a gas station located at 400 S. Grand Blvd, Gary, Indiana. After the incident, the victim was transported to Methodist Northlake for treatment. Video evidence led to the presentation of the case to the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Task Force initiated an investigation to locate Merritt, culminating in her arrest Friday morning. Merritt was reportedly found in possession of a stolen handgun, which may result in additional charges by the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office.
