JOLIET – A homeless man was arrested Thursday in connection with a mysterious powder found in the lobby of the Joliet Police Department Headquarters Wednesday night.

According to Joliet Police, an undefined white powdery substance was found in the lobby of the building just before 8 pm Wednesday. Officers responding to the scene evaluated and closed off the area to the public, treating it as a hazardous material situation. Joliet Fire Department officials later identified the powder as a dietary supplement powder.

An investigation of video surveillance later found 44-year-old Demarkus Bailey allegedly spreading the powder throughout the front lobby and other areas of the Joliet Police Department.

Bailey was arrested and charged with Felony Disorderly Conduct without incident after returning to the Police Department Thursday.
