Homewood, IL – A significant development has unfolded in the Village of Homewood as law enforcement officials have successfully apprehended two suspects linked to a recent vehicular hijacking.
On March 1, 2024, Santo Barr, 20, from Homewood, and Katasha Asielue, 28, from Chicago, were arrested and are now facing charges for their alleged roles in the crime.
The incident in question took place on the evening of February 27, 2024, along the 800 block of Elder Road. According to the Homewood Police Department, officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of a vehicular hijacking. The investigation revealed that a silver Kia Sorento was hijacked by a duo, a man and a woman, both of whom were armed and masked at the time of the crime. The victim, threatened at gunpoint, abandoned his vehicle and escaped on foot, while the assailants drove away, heading north. The abandoned vehicle was later discovered in Chicago.
Following their arrest, Barr and Asielue were charged with one count of aggravated vehicular hijacking, classified as a Class X felony, highlighting the serious nature of the offense. Both suspects were taken to the Markham Courthouse for their bond hearing on March 3, 2024.
