COOK COUNTY, Ill. – A hazardous material emergency involving a leaking semi-truck carrying hydrogen peroxide led to the closure of outbound Interstate 55 in Cook County’s south suburbs on Friday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, the incident, which started just after 8 a.m., is located approximately a quarter-mile north of La Grange Road near Hodgkins.

Upon discovery of the disabled semi on the right shoulder, authorities confirmed the leakage of hydrogen peroxide. The situation prompted a swift response from multiple fire service agencies and a specialized HAZMAT clean-up crew.
