Illinois Felon Arrested After Bar Shooting Leaves Man with Stomach Wound

West Peoria, IL – A man was left with a stomach wound Saturday following a shooting at Mike’s Tavern, situated at 626 N. Cedar St. 

According to Peoria County Sheriff’s Police reports the victim, an adult male and an employee of the bar, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, while nearby property also bore the brunt of the violence. Law enforcement officers swiftly arrived at the scene, leading to the arrest of the alleged shooter, a known felon within Illinois.

The suspect, identified as Anthony Gates, 43, closely matched witness descriptions and was arrested nearby following the incident.

Gates now faces a series of serious charges, including aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm without FOID (Firearm Owner’s Identification), and possession of a firearm by a felon.
