Illinois hits 1 Million COVID-19 cases Thursday

SPRINGFIELD – A historic new mark was reached Thursday when the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) announced an additional 8,757 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19, including 177 additional deaths.

A total of 1,008,045 cases have now been reported in Illinois, including 17,272 deaths.

Today’s deaths included individuals from Iroquois, Kankakee, and Will Counties.

According to the CDC, there have now been 20,960,096 cases total in the US, including 227,692 cases in the last 24-hours, the most ever recorded in a single day in the US.

The preliminary seven-day statewide test positivity from December 31, 2020 – January 6, 2021 is 9.8%.
