Illinois Weather Alert: Severe Thunderstorm Advisory in Effect

Chicago, IL – The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a thunderstorm update for the region. 

As of 12:30 PM CDT on April 7, 2024, a significant weather advisory is in place until 4 PM CDT, highlighting potential hazards including lightning strikes and gusty winds. The alert specifically targets the yellow-shaded area on the map, which includes parts of Kankakee County. 

Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors upon hearing thunder and to exercise caution while driving due to possible downpours. Gusty winds from the southeast, reaching 35-45 mph, are also expected to occur outside of thunderstorm areas. The storm is projected to move northeast at a rate of 40-50 mph.
