Chicago, IL – Travelers are facing icy conditions this morning as the winter weather advisory remains in effect.

The latest reports as of 5:18 AM indicate that most roads south of Chicago are mostly covered with ice or snow, signaling hazardous driving conditions. The National Weather Service has noted a significant risk of accumulation, with snowfall rates that could reach one inch per hour, particularly impacting the morning commute. The Illinois Department of Transportation warns of widespread areas of icing, including bridges and roadways, as well as scattered snow-covered roads due to persistent blowing snow.

Motorists are strongly advised to drive with extreme care, reduce speed, and use caution, especially on roads less traveled which are showing signs of heavy snow and ice coverage. This winter advisory calls for heightened awareness and preparedness as conditions are expected to remain challenging throughout the morning.
