Illinois Woman, 4-Year-Old Son Died By Gunshot in Apparent Murder-Suicide: Police

MANHATTAN, IL — A 39-year-old woman and her 4-year-old son were tragically found dead from gunshot wounds in an apparent murder-suicide in Manhattan, Illinois. 

According to Manhattan Police, Sarah Durkin and her son, Caden, were discovered around 4:15 p.m. inside their home on 3rd Street after police responded to a neighbor’s 911 call reporting a shooting last Friday. The incident, deemed isolated with no threat to the public, has shocked neighbors and the community. 

Autopsies conducted by the Will County Coroner’s Office aim to provide further details on the cause and manner of their deaths. This heartbreaking event serves as a reminder of the urgent need for mental health support and awareness.

Final cause and manner will be determined at later date, pending Police, Autopsy and toxicological reports.
