Indiana residents are being cautioned about a scam involving fake Medicare calls. The Newton County Sheriff’s Office shared a resident’s experience of receiving a dubious call about new Medicare cards.

The caller, falsely claiming to be from Medicare, asked if the resident had received their new card. Suspicious, the resident swiftly ended the call and confirmed with Medicare that no new cards were being issued.

The Sheriff’s Office urges residents to be wary of such calls and to verify any similar claims by contacting Medicare directly at 800-663-4227. This alert serves to protect the community from potential fraud.
