Jasper, IN – Indiana residents will have an opportunity this weekend to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at reducing drug misuse.

According to Indiana State Police, the agency is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 25. Collection sites will be available across the state, including a local drop-off location at the Indiana State Police Jasper Post.

The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering a free and anonymous way for the public to dispose of medications without questions asked. Officials say both pill and liquid medications will be accepted, but needles or sharps are not permitted.

Authorities emphasize that proper disposal is critical to preventing prescription drug abuse and accidental overdoses. Unused medications stored in homes are often a source of misuse, with many individuals obtaining them from family or friends.

Officials also warn against flushing medications or throwing them in the trash, citing potential environmental and safety risks.

The initiative is part of a broader effort to combat drug diversion and protect communities across Indiana. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the event to safely clear out old or unneeded prescriptions.

Additional collection sites may be available statewide through local law enforcement agencies.
