CHESTERTON, Ind. — A dramatic shift in traffic patterns took place on Ind. 49 Tuesday morning when a Jeep SUV, traveling southbound, suddenly crossed the median and collided with vehicles on the northbound lane.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded south of C.R. 600N in Washington Township around 8 a.m., resulted in the Jeep’s driver being hospitalized.
Immediate responders and the Porter County Sheriff’s Police are investigating the cause of this deviation, with preliminary indications pointing away from drugs or alcohol, suggesting a potential medical emergency as the precipitating factor.
