Indiana – Motorists should expect to see crews trimming and removing trees along state rights of way until the end of March, as announced by the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT).
This operation is part of pre-construction road work, which must be completed before the April 1st deadline to avoid disturbing bat populations during their active season. INDOT highlights that tree clearing is restricted to the bats’ inactive season from October 1st to March 31st unless special permission is obtained from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Drivers are advised to exercise caution and give workers ample space. The presence of these crews also indicates upcoming road construction slated for the summer. For a detailed view of the projects, INDOT encourages the public to consult their Next Level Roads map.
