Wheatfield, IN – A false threat involving an incendiary device and active shooter at Kankakee Valley High School prompted a swift lockdown and a coordinated response from multiple law enforcement and emergency services on Wednesday morning, February 28, 2024.
According to a press release from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department, the alert was raised early in the day, leading to the mobilization of the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Demotte Police Department, Indiana State Police, Porter County Sheriff’s Office, along with Keener Township and Wheatfield Township Fire and Ambulance services, and the Jasper County Hi-Way Department. The concerted effort ensured the safety of students and staff across the Kankakee Valley School Corporation, with normal activities resuming before noon after the threat was deemed unfounded.
The incident remains under investigation by the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, which urges anyone with relevant information to come forward and contact Detectives Buschman or Napier.
