Indianapolis, IN – Man Dies in Apartment Fire, 50 Evacuated in Indianapolis

Indianapolis, IN – A tragic fire in Indianapolis led to the death of a 65-year-old man and the evacuation of 50 other residents from a suburban apartment complex on Michigan Rd. 

The Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) has attributed the cause of the fire to the improper use of smoking materials. Upon investigating an alarm drop, firefighters discovered the man inside his apartment. In addition to the fatality, two individuals were hospitalized with minor injuries.This incident is the second fire fatality reported by the IFD in 2024, following a year where 10 fire fatalities were recorded in 2023. 

The IFD expresses its condolences and underscores the importance of fire safety awareness in the community. It also reminds the public of the critical need to be vigilant about common fire hazards, including unattended cooking, misuse of smoking materials, and electrical safety.
