Indianapolis, IN – In the early hours, Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) firefighters encountered significant challenges while responding to a fire at 2828 E 10th Street. Upon arrival, they faced light smoke emanating from the rear of a two-story building.
A preliminary investigation inside revealed a “trash fire” on the first floor, comprising pallets and other flammable materials. During a thorough search, a firefighter, drawn by cries for help, discovered a semi-conscious man in the basement. The man, a 39-year-old resident of the building, was swiftly rescued and received advanced life support before being transported to Eskenazi Hospital in serious condition.
Neighbors indicated the man lived on the second floor, but it remains unclear why he moved to the basement. The building’s locked and obstructed exits may have trapped him. The firefighter’s prompt and courageous actions are hailed for saving the man from potentially critical injuries. Authorities are currently investigating the fire’s origin.
