Kankakee, IL – ‘Portrait of a Soldier’ Memorial Exhibit Debuts at Kankakee Public Library

Kankakee, IL – Starting May 18, the ‘Portrait of a Soldier’ exhibit will be featured at the Kankakee Public Library, located at 201 East Merchant Street. This exhibit, free and open to the public until May 29, honors Illinois soldiers who died in service since September 11, 2001.

The opening event, scheduled for noon on May 18, will include former Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and Senator Patrick Joyce, who will deliver remarks.Former Governor Quinn, who established the ‘Portrait of a Soldier’ initiative in 2004, was inspired by the graphite portraits created by artist Cameron Schilling of Mattoon, IL. The memorial has traveled across the state under Quinn’s stewardship, providing a platform for residents to remember and honor the ultimate sacrifices of Illinois veterans.
