Lake County, IL – A Gurnee woman and her passenger were hospitalized with critical injuries following a crash on Route 41 in Lake County on Saturday afternoon.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported the incident occurred around 2:15 p.m. near Stearns School Road and Fuller Road. An 88-year-old Gurnee woman driving a Toyota Rav4 collided with a Kia Forte at the intersection of Route 41 and Stearns School Road, causing minor damage to both vehicles.

According to an 89-year-old male passenger in the Rav4, the driver mistakenly pressed the accelerator instead of the brake, leading the vehicle to strike a utility pole. Both occupants of the Rav4 were hospitalized with critical injuries, while the Kia driver was uninjured.
