Avon, NY – Three Livingston County residents are facing felony and misdemeanor charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 390 in Avon Friday night.
According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the stop happened around 8:15 p.m. Friday, April 17, when an investigator observed a violation of New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law. The driver was identified as 37-year-old Robert Gelser of Nunda. Two passengers, 37-year-old John Kennedy Jr., also of Nunda, and 42-year-old Meghan Soto of Geneseo, were also in the vehicle.
According to authorities, the investigator suspected drug activity during the stop, prompting a search and further investigation. Deputies allegedly discovered methamphetamine in the vehicle, and all three occupants were charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree.
Officials said Kennedy allegedly had an active order of protection requiring him to stay away from Soto. He was additionally charged with misdemeanor Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree and felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree after deputies reportedly found metal knuckles in his possession.
All three were transported to the Livingston County Jail for processing. Soto and Gelser were later released on their own recognizance under New York’s bail reform guidelines. Kennedy was held after arraignment, with bail set at $3,000 cash or $15,000 bond, according to authorities.
The Livingston County District Attorney’s Office and Public Defender’s Office both appeared during arraignment proceedings.
