PEMBROKE TOWNSHIP, IL – Kankakee Sheriff Police arrested an Illinois man on weapon charges in Pembroke Townships on Wednesday after receiving a call about a potential shotgun sighting.

Deputies responded to the 14000 block of East Central Street, where they learned that a man had been seen walking around the area with a shotgun. Although the man had returned to his apartment by the time deputies arrived, further investigation led to a startling discovery.

Upon making contact with the individual, identified as 78-year-old Carl M Burt, deputies allegedly found a flare gun holster on one side of his body and a long knife holster on the other side. Burt, a convicted felon, admitted to having a BB gun and a .22 Rifle in his home, which is prohibited by law.

Burt was subsequently arrested on charges of unlawful use of a weapon and taken into custody. He is currently being held at the Jerome Combs Detention Center in Kankakee on a $4,000 bond.
