DANVILLE, Ill. – An inmate at the Vermilion County Jail was hospitalized after a daring escape attempt over the weekend went awry.
According to Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department, the inmate managed to gain access to a maintenance opening.
The inmate then reportedly broke a window located four stories above the ground in an attempt to flee. However, his plans quickly unraveled when he attempted to lower himself using a makeshift rope crafted from a bedsheet. The rope turned out to be too short, causing the inmate to fall the remaining three stories onto the unforgiving concrete below.
As a result of the fall, the inmate sustained serious leg injuries and was immediately transported to a hospital in Champaign, where he underwent surgery.
The identity of the inmate along with the severity of his injuries remain unknown at this time.
