Rolling Prairie, IN – In a major drug bust on the Indiana Toll Road, law enforcement authorities confiscated nearly 300 pounds of marijuana.

According to reports the incident occurred during a routine traffic stop near Rolling Prairie, when a LaPorte County Police officer pulled over Luis Dorantes Perez, 38, for speeding and erratic driving.

During the stop, the officer became suspicious upon noticing a blanket covering several bulky items in the vehicle’s back end. Detecting a strong odor resembling marijuana, the officer conducted a search and uncovered over 50 plastic packages, each weighing five pounds, cleverly concealed beneath the blanket. Additionally, more than a dozen one-pound packages of marijuana were found.

Perez later allegedly admitted to authorities that he was transporting the illegal substance from Washington to New York.

Perez was charged with marijuana possession with the intent to distribute, a level 5 felony offense, which carries severe penalties under Indiana law.
