Major Car Accident: Two vehicles collide head-on, Route 47 in Grundy Co.

MAZON, Ill. — Multiple emergency response teams were called to the scene of a major car accident that occurred on South Illinois Route 47 and Sucker Rd in Mazon at approximately 7:05 pm on Friday evening.

According to scanner information, the accident involved two vehicles that collided head-on, resulting in heavy damage and a heavy pin-in situation. The accident has caused the closure of Route 47 and commuters are advised to avoid the area.

Emergency teams from Gardner, Seneca, Dwight, Morris, and Coal City have all been dispatched to the scene to provide assistance. Multiple patients have been reported, but the exact number and severity of injuries are unknown at this time.

The cause of the accident has not been released, and the identities of those involved have not been disclosed. Emergency teams are working to extricate those who are trapped and provide medical assistance to the injured.
