A crash Wednesday evening on I-57 sent two drivers to the hospital.

The crash occurred around 6:45 p.m. on I-57 near mile marker 318. The crash blocked lanes in the area until just before 9 p.m.

Illinois State Police report a 2006 Black Jeep driven by 36-year old Josiah Gifford of Bourbonnais veered left, running off a roadway, overturning on I-57 Wednesday, while a 2019 White Freightliner Truck Tractor Trailer behind Gifford’s Jeep reportedly veered right to avoid Gifford’s Jeep, running off the right side of the roadway leading it to overturn. The Tractor Trailer was driven by 51-year-old Ivory Taylor of St. Louis, MO.

Both drivers were transported to area hospitals for injuries following the accident.

Gifford has been charged by Illinois State Police for Driving too Fast for Conditions.
